Jacques-Louis David nasceu em Paris em 30 de agosto de 1748 e faleceu em Bruxelas em 29 de dezembro de 1825 foi o pintor francês mais característico representante do neoclassicismo. Controlou durante anos a atividade artística francesa, sendo o pintor oficial da corte francesa e de Napoleão Bonaparte.
